Short pieces from the bench and the commute pass — cold starts, ANRs, festival batteries, and what a mall radio does to a checkout screen.

Checkout on mall Wi-Fi is not checkout on Celcom

4 August 2026

Pavilion Wi-Fi can complete a card tokenization while a Celcom SIM in the same atrium still waits on a pinned certificate. Teams who only time in the office treat the atrium as “the same building.” It is not the same radio.

Why battery complaints arrive after a festival campaign

QA on cable power never feels a receipt sync that was added for a Raya blast and left on a four-minute timer. The home screen looks calm. The radio does not. People notice a warm pocket on the Putra LRT, then blame “the update” as a whole.

When product calls it a crash and engineering calls it an ANR

3 June 2026

A frozen checkout is not a process death. Play Console will still count it, and the shopper will still abandon the bag. In a walkthrough we put the ANR traces in a separate pile from SIGSEGV and uncaught exceptions, then we replay the screen with the main thread occupied the way the trace describes.

What a 3.2-second cold start feels like in KL traffic

12 May 2026

Three seconds is a short sentence. On a paused motorcycle at a traffic light in Cheras, it is long enough to lock the phone, look up, and decide the app is “not opening.” We time from icon tap, not from process start, because that is the gesture the person made.
